The newly introduced Lucknow franchise was dealt with a major setback when star English pacer Mark Wood was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury. Mark Wood was picked up by the Lucknow-based franchise for a heft price of INR 7.5 Cr in the mega auction. His injury has left a huge gap to be filled by the franchise. Lucknow has been actively looking for Wood’s replacement in the past few days.

They tried to rope in the Bangladeshi pacer, Taskin Ahmed. But the deal fell through as the player did not receive the NoC from BCB. Reports of Lucknow looking to sign Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani is still ripe. But a piece of major breakthrough news suggests that the franchise is set to sign the Australian star pacer Andrew Tye as Wood’s replacement, with Muzarabani joining as a net bowler.

Andrew Tye is well known for his death over speciality. If the deal goes through successfully, this might turn out to be the best replacement for Wood. Tye has previously won the purple cap in the Indian T20 League while playing for Punjab in 2018. He picked up 24 wickets in that season. Lucknow will be eager to get the Aussie onboard, adding balance to the squad.

Andrew Tye has already played in 27 Indian T20 League matches. He has 40 wickets in those matches at an average of 21.8. His economy rate of 8.46 seems on the higher side but given the fact that he bowls mostly in the death overs, it is decent. Fans will be looking forward to the development between Tye and Lucknow.
