Gautam Gambhir not in mood to spare Rohit Sharma over latter’s ODI century drought
India skipper Rohit Sharma hasn’t hit a century in ODI cricket in the last three years. His last ODI hundred came against Australia in January 2020. Since then, he has played 14 ODIs in the last three years but hasn’t been able to reach the triple-figure mark. The Mumbaikar has 29 hundreds to his name. Meanwhile, former India opener, Gautam Gambhir isn’t in the mood to relent on Sharma.
He said that the criticism of Rohit must be as same as it was during Virat Kohli’s phase. In simple words, Kohli also failed to score a hundred across formats for almost three years from 2019 to 2022. Meanwhile, Gambhir pointed out that 50 innings without a hundred are a lot.
“We should talk in the same phase. Virat Kohli didn’t get a hundred for three and a half years. I think Rohit should be kicking himself. It will be equally hard on Rohit Sharma as well. 50 innings are a lot, it’s not like he didn’t get a hundred in one or two games. If you look at the last (ODI) World Cup, one thing is missing from his game and it’s the ability to get those hundreds,” said Gambhir while to Star Sports.
One thing that stood out for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is getting hundreds; Gautam Gambhir
The cricketer-turned-politician also spoke about the ability of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s get a hundred. Gautam said that Virat has got his century making back but Rohit is yet to do so.
“It’s not you didn’t get a 100 in one or two series, and that is one thing that is missing in Rohit’s game from the last World Cup. He used to get those big 100s, this time he’s looking in good form, he’s hitting the ball well but he has to convert.
“One thing that has stood out for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is getting hundreds, and Virat has got it back, Rohit Sharma needs to get it back at least before the World Cup, because these two guys will be extremely important if India has to go all the way and win the World Cup”, Gambhir signed off.
