Gautam Gambhir Takes A Dig Again On Virat Kohli After His Century Drought Comes To An End
Against Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup, Virat Kohli scored his 71st International ton. Even, though it was his maiden ton in T20Is. After a gap of 1021 days, Kohli finally managed to end his century drought. However, no fans and Kohli himself had the belief that it will come in the shortest format of the game.
His inning was instrumental for India as they posted 212 runs by losing two wickets in 20 Overs. He remained not out on 122 runs off 61 balls. Eventually, India won the match by 101 runs. However, former Indian batter, Gautam Gambhir shared an honest opinion on Kohli’s long drought for centuries across the format.
“Anyone would have survived three years without a hundred as Virat Kohli did” – Gautam Gambhir
During his conversation with Star Sports, Gambhir said that any player would have survived three years without a hundred. But, he got that chance just because of his past contribution for a whole decade. He said: “Three years is a very long time. It’s not three months. And I’m not trying to be critical of him but he has earned that just because he has got loads of runs in the past. But I don’t think so that any of the young batters would have survived in international cricket had they not got a hundred in three years.”
Gambhir added: “Eventually it had to happen and it happened at the right time as well. You are just approaching the 20-20 World Cup and he’s got a hundred so he has got the monkey off his back. But let’s be fair and absolutely honest, I don’t think anyone in the dressing room would have survived three years without a hundred. People like Ashwin, Rahane, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul have been dropped. I haven’t known one guy who hasn’t been dropped after not having scored a hundred in three years. It is only Virat Kohli and he has earned that.”
Virat Kohli had a great Asia Cup for India. In five matches, he scored 276 runs at a staggering average of 92. Now, he is most likely to be in action again in the home series against Australia and South Africa.
