Gautam Gambhir terms Rohit ‘selfless’, criticises sports channel for hyping record

The former Indian cricketer has been criticising the media outlets for the importance they give to milestones. Recently, Gambhir has been of the opinion that individual milestones do not matter ahead of the team’s win. Gambhir has claimed that the Indian fans are individual-obsessed rather than team-obsessed.
However, Gambhir was of the opinion that the Indian captain was not like the media and the broadcasters. Gambhir said that Rohit has been selfless as a batter in the ongoing tournament, which has helped the team’s cause. Gambhir said that Rohit Sharma is making a statement with his fast-paced innings. Gambhir believed that Rohit is leading the Indian team with an example.
“Unlike fans and broadcasters, Rohit Sharma is not obsessed with stats, he is making statements with those innings and that’s what a leader does,” said Gambhir in the dugout. As Gambhir praised Rohit, the Indian captain played a fantastic innings against England in tough conditions in Lucknow. The opener scored 87 runs in 101 balls and helped India to get to a total of 229 runs.
Rohit Sharma would’ve got 40-45 hundred by now – Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir further claimed that Rohit would have got 40-45 hundreds by now, had he been selfish. Gambhir lauded Rohit for his selfless act as a batter in the ongoing tournament. “Rohit Sharma would’ve got 40-45 hundred by now, but he’s not obsessed with hundreds. He’s selfless,” added Gambhir. Like Gambhir, many have expressed their opinion that the fans should not care much about individual records. India has performed well under Rohit’s captaincy.
Rohit has been having a sensational run in the ongoing ODI World Cup. The Indian batter has been one of the best batters in the tournament with an incredible strike rate. As a leader, Rohit has led the Indian team well. He has been one of the main reasons behind India’s unbeaten run in the tournament till now. Rohit’s starts have ensured that the rest of the players in the team can bat with comparatively lesser pressure.
