Gautam Gambhir urges BJP chief to relieve him from political duties ahead of IPL 2024
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has informed BJP chief Jagat Prakash Nadda to relieve him from political duties as he is going to start his tenure with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor.
He tweeted from his official Twitter account requesting the BJP president to relieve him from his commitments so that he can focus on cricket. Gautam Gambhir also thanked honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for giving him a chance to help the public of India.
“I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodiji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!” tweeted Gambhir on X.

This decision of Gautam Gambhir came a few days before as he is set to return with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor role ahead of IPL. Gautam Gambhir will work closely with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Gambhir’s decision comes just days ahead of his return with KKR as their new mentor. The former India opener will be working closely with head coach Chandrakant Pandit. While Gautam Gambhir was captained of KKR from 2011 to 2017. He also led KKR to IPL trophies twice in 2012 and 2014. KKR official announced Gautam Gambhir’s return through a press release, “Gautam Gambhir will return to KKR as “Mentor” and join hands with head coach Chandrakant Pandit,” KKR said in a release.
While Gautam Gambhir worked as Lucknow Super Giants mentor in 2022 and 2023 IPL. Gautam Gambhir played an important role in LSG’s run to the playoffs in both IPL seasons. Kolkata Knight Riders will start their IPL season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Eden Garden Kolkata. In the first half of the IPL KKR will play three matches.
