The 22-year-old southpaw from Uttar Pradesh, Yasavi Jaiswal scored his maiden Test double hundred in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Former India’s left-hander Gautam Gambhir, who is known for his controversial takes, opened up on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s double century. While the cricketing world lauded the youngster’s performance against England, Gautam Gambhir had his own opinions. He is not in favour of over-hyping Yashavi Jaiswal’s double hundred, saying it increases the pressure of expectation on him, which adversely affects his natural game.

Jaiswal’s milestone marked him, as the first Indian left-hander since Gambhir to score a double hundred in the longest format. Gambhir achieved the feat in 2008 against Australia.

He became the third-youngest Indian to achieve the feat in his career

Jaiswal registered his name in the record books by becoming the third youngest Indian to score a double century. Vinod Kambli remains the youngest player to achieve this feat, followed by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Jaiswal smashed a 6 and then a 4 to notch up his maiden double century on Day 2 of the Test match. The 22-year-old scored 209 runs and helped the team post a 1st innings total of 396 runs on the board. Playing only his 6th Test, the southpaw showed great resolve against the England bowlers.

“I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to overhype their achievements and give them tags and make them look like heroes,” Gautam Gambhir told to PTI.

“The pressure of expectation gets the better of them and the players are not able to play their natural game. Let him grow and enjoy his cricket,” he added.

He further said, “We should give them time as they are quality players, and they have shown it in the past with their performance. That is why they are playing for India.”

The former Indian opener has come back as the Mentor for the next edition of the Indian Premier League for KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders).
