This will be the 15th edition of the Asia Cup. The first edition of the tournament was held in 1984. In the 14 previous editions, the tournament has been organized in the ODI format 13 times and T20 format only once, with the only instance coming in 2016. India is the most successful team in the tournament, winning the trophy 7 times, followed by Sri Lanka, who has won the title 5 times.
Pakistan was set to host the tournament, but it was later decided that the hosts for the 15th edition would be Sri Lanka given that India won’t travel to Pakistan for the series. The tournament was set to be staged in June last year but had to be postponed as India qualified for the Test Championship final. The tournament was also postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic.
