India and Pakistan locked horns in the 13th game of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2022 in Sylhet. India was coming off three back-to-back wins in the tournament. On the other hand, Pakistan went down to minnows Thailand the other day. Talking about the INDO-PAK game, the Green Brigade won the toss and elected to bat first. Just the like the game against Thailand, they had a slow start.

Also, they lost three wickets in the powerplay and were reduced to 33/3 at the end of six overs. Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma, and Pooja Vastrakar share one wicket each. At this stage, skipper Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar provided some stability and played with more intent than they did against Thailand. The duo stitched a partnership of 76 runs. Dar scored an explosive 56 off just 37 balls while Maroof scored a stable 32.

However, the rest of the batters failed to capitalize which is why they were reduced to 137/6 at the end of the innings. For the Women In Blue, Deepti Sharma took three wickets while Vastrakar and Singh took two and one wickets respectively.

So close but yet so far for India

In reply, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side started steadily but lost two wickets for 29 runs. The team lost the wickets of in-form Jemimah Rodrigues and Sabbineni Meghana in the powerplay. Smriti Mandhana tried to accelerate the scoring but was caught at long-on by Aiman Anwar off Nashra Sandhu. At this stage, the fans were expecting the skipper to come out to bat. However, the team sent Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma before her.

After the fall of the fifth wicket on 65 runs, Kaur finally came out to bat. She and Deepti Sharma accelerated the scoring for a few overs. However, the wickets of the duo in the 16th and 17th overs dented India’s chances of winning. Out of nowhere, Richa Ghosh upped the ante and raised the hopes of Indian fans. However, she got out on the penultimate over and the team went on to lose the game by 13 runs.
