The ongoing third one-day international between Indian Women and England Women at the iconic Lord’s is a special game for a couple of reasons for Indian Women team. While team India will look to write history by winning the game and registering their maiden clean sweep on English soil, the game is also the farewell match of India’s prolific right-arm pacer Jhulan Goswami.

The 39-year-old is currently the world’s leading wicket-taker across all formats and is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers to play the game. While Goswami missed an ultimate glory five years ago when Team India lost the 2017 World Cup final at Lord’s, the veteran pacer is part of a historic series win in England, India’s first in the country in 23 years.

Ahead of the start of the third and final ODI, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who admires the legendary pacer was seen in tears when Jhulan Goswami was handed a special memento. In a video which is going viral on social media, the Indian team was seen honouring Goswami with a memento, when Indian skipper broke into tears in the huddle. Goswami was later seen hugging and consoling the Indian captain.

Earlier, Kaur admitted that she wanted to win the series to dedicate a perfect tribute to the legendary Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami. “She has been a terrific servant to Indian cricket. She has carried the responsibilities of Indian women cricket for more than a decade. Winning the series will only be a fitting tribute to Jhulan di,” she earlier said on the sidelines of the India vs England three-match ODI series.

Speaking of the match, Team India had a miserable start to their innings as they lost four quick wickets. After England invited Women in Blue to bat first, 30-year-old right-arm medium pacer Kate Cross rattled India’s top order leaving them reeling at 29/4. Half-centuries from Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana took India to 169 after they got bundled out in 45.4 overs.

England team had a decent start to their innings as the openers added 27 runs for the first wicket. Seamer Renuka Singh sparked a collapse in England batting as she picked three wickets in quick time. Jhulan Goswami also picked up a wicket leaving England in a precarious situation at 65/7 after 17 overs. Chasing down the target from here on would be a herculean task for the England women.
