‘Haan bhai twitter pe saare umpire hi baithe hai’ – Twitter gives mixed reaction after Saud Shakeel given out by third umpire
The ongoing second Test match between Pakistan vs England has become a cliffhanger since Day One. After winning the toss, England batted for only 51.4 overs but amassed 281 all-out. In reply, Pakistan was 142/2 before Babar Azam’s wicket triggered a collapse and the team was restricted to 202 all-out, trailing by 79 runs. At this stage, the home side needed regular wickets and limit the opposition to a lower score.
Thanks to Ben Duckett’s half-century and Harry Brook’s hundred, the Three Lions scored 275 all-out, setting a target of 355 runs for the Babar Azam-led side. In reply, Pakistan had a poor start as they lost three wickets for 83 runs. The likes of Imam Ul Haq and Saud Shakeel stitched a partnership of 108 runs for the fourth wicket. When it looked like the team would end on a strong note on Day Three, Haq got out.
However, the team still finished alright at 198/4. Early in the ongoing Day Four, Faheem Ashraf was caught at slips off Joe Root. However, the likes of Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Nawaz took the team close, and looked like the team would go into the Lunch break in the winning position. However, Mark Wood took out both batters and left the home team hanging.
Saud Shakeel’s dismissal became a matter of debate
In the last over of the first session, Wood bowled a short bowl angling down the leg side from round the wicket. The batter failed to connect the ball well and the ball was caught by Ollie Pope behind the stumps. However, the umpires weren’t sure and gave the soft signal out. After watching multiple replays, the third umpire stayed with the on-field decision.
On the other hand, the fans are divided on the matter. Some feel that it was not out while some believe it was out.
This is how Twitter reacted
What was on field decision. You can't overturn on field decision unless you're 100% sure

Ball is clearly touching the grass
But Joe Wilson is drunk I think
In the first innings he gave Ben duckett not out and overturned the decision.
And now when it was dubious, he have it out.
Pathetic umpiring— Faizanrasan (@Faizanrasan2) December 12, 2022
