Sunrisers Hyderabad are back to their winning ways after losing their first two games in IPL 2023. The Orange-army registered their second consecutive victory by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 23 runs in the high-scoring encounter at the Eden Gardens. Batting first, SRH posted a mammoth total 228 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, powered by the century by Harry Brook. While KKR were restricted to 205 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

SRH got a firing start as Harry Brook added 46 runs with Mayank Agarwal for the first wicket in 4.1 overs. Andre Russel took the first wicket for KKR. In the last ball of the fifth over, Russel strike again by dismissing Rahul Tripathi. After that, Brook and the skipper Aiden Markram put up a partnership of 72 runs for the third wicket. Markram got out after scoring 50 runs off 26 balls with two fours and five sixes.

After Markram’s dismissal, Abhishek Sharma added 72 runs more with Brook for the fifth wicket. After that, Brook went on to score the first century and remained unbeaten on 100 runs off 55 balls hitting 12 fours and three sixes. While Heinrich Klaasen (16 off 6) added the finishing touches to the innings as SRH crossed 220 runs. For KKR, Russell took 3 wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy put 1 in his bag.

Nitish Rana and  Rinku Singh’s partnership put KKR’s hopes alive

Chasing the winning total, KKR didn’t had a great start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the first over of the innings to dismiss Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck. In 3.3 overs, the score was reduced to 20 for 3. After that, Narayan Jagadeesan and the skipper Nitish Rana added 62 runs for the fourth wicket. Jagadeesan got out after scoring 36 off 21 with five fours and a maximum.

Russell also got out for 3 runs and KKR were reduced at 96 for 5. After that, Rana and Rinku Singh put up a partnership of 69 runs to bring the hosts back into the game. Rana got out after scoring 75 runs off 41 deliveries hitting five fours and six sixes. While Rinku went on to score his first half-century in IPL but couldn’t take his team down the line. The 25-year-old remained unbeaten on 58 runs off 31 balls hitting four fours and four sixes, as KKR were restricted to 205. For SRH, Marco Jansen and Mayank Markhande scalped 2-2 wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T. Natarajan, and Umran Malik shared a wicket each.
