The cricket team vice captain Hardik Pandya is all set to miss India’s few upcoming league stage matches in the ODI World Cup 2023. Hardik Pandya pulled an ankle sprain injured while bowling his first over against Bangladesh in Pune. Hardik failed to make it back to the field and even missed batting in the second innings of the game. 

The Indian cricket board declared that Hardik Pandya will miss Hardik Pandya the match against New Zealand and will be back against England and Lucknow. However, as per sources Hardik Pandya has not recovered yet and might miss India’s match against England as well as Sri Lanka. 

The source revealed that the team management wants Hardik Pandey to be fully fit for the knockout stage matches, hence as a precaution, he will miss a few league stage matches.

“Hardik is still under medication. While the swelling on his left ankle has subsided considerably, he will start bowling only towards the weekend. Right now, important is to give him time to recover,” set an NCA official. 

“Pandya has suffered a bad sprain but fortunately not a fracture. The medical team wants to take maximum precautions. He is likely to miss the next two to three matches. The team wants him fully fit for the knock-out stage,” said a close source of the Indian cricket board. 

Earlier, the Indian cricket board gave an update on Hardik Pandya’s injury and ruled him out of the match against New Zealand and assured that the all-rounder will be back for the match against England, “Team India vice-captain Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised to rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India plays England.” 

After winning the match against Bangladesh, in the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma said, “He (Hardik) pulled up a bit sore, nothing major to worry about. We’ll see how he pulls up tomorrow morning and then plan on how to go forward. Everyone in the squad has gone through pressure, the crowd is coming in big numbers, the stands are full, they haven’t disappointed us, they’ve been brilliant and I’m sure they’ll be louder and louder as we move on.”
