Cricket World Cup 2023 Trophy tour in Pune

The upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 is only a few days away from its start. Ahead of the tournament, the Apex Council organized a trophy tour in Pune. The city will host their first ODI World Cup game. It hosted an ODI game for the first time in 2013. In that game, Australia beat India by 72 runs in what was the first ODI of the seven-match series 10 years back.

Two years back, the ground hosted the three-match ODI series against England. The Men In Blue won the series by 2-1. Since then, they have hosted the IPL 2022 games and didn’t get a single game this year. Meanwhile, ahead of the World Cup, a trophy tour via bus was conducted. To watch the event, the locals came despite the heavy rains. Some of them were holding a placard of Rohit Sharma with the trophy.

Talking about the games at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune will host four games of the tournament. India will play only one, i.e. against Bangladesh. That game will take place five days after their all-important game against Pakistan on October 14. Apart from this, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will lock horns on the 30th. The last game between the two teams went down the wire. Apparently, the Afghans needed to chase down whatever they needed in just 31.1 overs or something. They came close but failed to achieve the target.

After them, the 2015 semifinalist, South Africa will take on New Zealand, who beat the Proteas in the iconic semis game eight years back.
