‘He will make LSG like Aussies’ – Fans react as Justin Langer gets appointed LSG’s Head coach for IPL 2024

On Friday, the Lucknow Supergiant’s unveiled Justin Langer as the team’s new head coach, succeeding Andy Flower, who left the franchise after two seasons. Being a batting coach and senior assistant coach for the Australian national cricket team, the 52-year-old Langer’s coaching tenure commenced in November of 2009. The former Australia cricketer stayed in this role until the end of November 2012, after which he took on his new role as senior coach for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers.

Notably, Australia trounced England in the Ashes series 4-0 while he was in charge. Furthermore, Australia won the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021, when the former opener was the head coach. In addition to this, Langer led the Perth Scorchers to three Big Bash titles. Meanwhile, the action that triggered Flower’s exit sparked questions about Gambhir’s future with the team.

“Lucknow Super Giants have appointed legendary former Australian cricket team coach and batsman Justin Langer as their team head coach. As the two-year contract of Andy Flower comes to an end, Lucknow Supergiant’s thanks Andy Flower for his contribution,” LSG said in a statement, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

LSG showed thankfulness to Flower, who was its two-season coach in charge. “Dear Andy, today it’s farewell, but it’ll never be goodbye because you’ll always be one of our own. Thank you for everything!” the franchise wrote in their Twitter post.

Langer stated after being named head coach of LSG, “Lucknow Super Giants are on the journey of building a great story in the IPL. We all have a role to play in that journey and I am excited to be a part of the team moving forward.”
