Real Madrid defeated Chelsea by 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Rodrygo scored both goals to take Los Blancos down the line. At the same time, the Blues missed a few chances which cost them the game.

Chelsea dominated the possession from the start of the match and created good chances. However, both N’Golo Kante and Marc Cucurella missed chances to score a goal. After that, Rodrygo struck first for Real Madrid by scoring a goal just 13 minutes into the restart. He tapped the pass from Vinicius Junior from six yards. Rodrygo struck again as the visitors scored their second goal with just 10 minutes of normal time remaining.

The Premier League side will now have to finish the season without a trophy, while Real Madrid will face either Manchester City or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League on May 9th and 16th.

This is the second time in a row, that Chelsea has been knocked out of the Champions League from the quarterfinals by Real Madrid. The Blues are languishing in the 11th position, accrued only 39 points from 31 games of the ongoing season of the Premier League. Meanwhile, the star player of Chelsea, Joao Felix, who has 63 goals in his club career, hasn’t been able to open his account against Real Madrid yet.

‘It isn’t easy to get to the semifinals or a final’ – Thibaut Courtois

Real Madrid will likely face similar opposition in the semi-finals as Manchester City sealed their place in the last four after beating Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg. Last season, Madrid and City produced an absolute thriller that ended in favour of Real Madrid as an aggregate win by 6-5, who fought back from a 4-3 first-leg deficit to win 3-1 at home.

“It isn’t easy to get to the semifinals or a final. In the last three years, we’ve got to a lot of them. Obviously, when you play a semifinal and lose, like against [Chelsea] three years ago, you don’t celebrate it’,” said Thibaut Courtois after the win as quoted by ESPN.

“We’re happy to get to a semifinal, which isn’t easy, but once you’re there, if you lose, it doesn’t feel like much. Our target is to go through and win.” the Belgian Footballer further added.
