As the fans gear up for the upcoming mega event, the ODI World Cup later this year in the month of October and November in India, the Apex Cricket Council has released the dates of next year’s Men’s T20 World Cup. According to the reports by ESPNcricinfo, the mega event will be played from June 4 to 30, 2024.

This tournament will be a 10-team event that is scheduled to take place across the 10 venues in the West Indies and in the United States of America (USA). The Cricket Governing Body has done a detailed inspection before finalizing all ten venues for next year’s T20 World Cup. Some of the venues for the tournament are Lauderhill in Florida, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York. It is noted that Lauderhill in Florida has hosted some international T20I matches in the past.

T20 World Cup 2024 is to be played in a different format

India will be locking horns with the Windies side in a five-match T20I series next month. Morrisville and Dallas are currently hosting the matches of the inaugural season of the ongoing Major League Cricket 2023.  The venues in Dallas, Morrisville, and New York have not got international status from the Apex Cricket Council. However, the Cricket Governing Body along with Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket, are likely to take a final call on the venues in the next couple of months.

Teams like Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have directly qualified for the tournament. Afghanistan and Bangladesh also have qualified by finishing in the top eight of the T20I rankings. The other 12 qualifying teams will compete in the Qualifies of the T20 World Cup 2024 in order to qualify for the major event.

The format for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024 will be altered. Unlike the previous years, where a first-round was played followed by Super 12, in 2024, all 20 teams will be divided into four groups consisting of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8s, followed by the semi-finals and finals of the World Cup.
