According to the reports, the Indian T20 League governing council the Board For Control of Cricket In India (BCCI) is mulling over punishing players for pulling out of the Indian T20 League at the last minute. The board had a meeting with Indian T20 League governing council for the same.

In the last couple of years, quite a few players have pulled out of the cash-rich league. Players such as Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson have pulled out at the last moment in the previous few seasons.

This year, Roy once again decided to skip the league along with Alex Hales. Both cited bio-bubble fatigue as the reason for not participating in the tournament. The duo was meant to represent Gujarat and Kolkata respectively in the ongoing season.

A Governing council member shed light on the development and said that playing pulling out at the last moment leaves the franchises in a soup as it disrupts the balance of the side.

“The GC has a commitment towards the franchises who are the important stakeholders of the league. They bid for a player after a lot of planning. Their calculations go haywire if a player pulls out, that too for flimsy reasons,” said a GC member.

The member added that not every player will be punished for pulling out of the league, adding that research will be done on the concerned players and action will be taken accordingly. The member also hinted that players can be banned from participating in the league for a certain number of years in case of unacceptable reasons.

“There will not be a sweeping policy that everyone who has pulled out of the IPL will be prevented for a certain number of years. It will be on a case-by-case basis and some research will be done before action is initiated. What if the reason is genuine,” a source in the know said.
