India won the first T20I against Australia by 2 wickets in Vishakhapatnam. A good effort from the batters helped India to claim a lead of 1-0 in the series. The Indian batters scored at an aggressive rate and helped the team to win the game. Despite some hiccups towards the end from the lower middle order, India ensured a win and entertained the crowd.

Batting first, Australia scored a huge total of 208 runs, thanks to a brilliant hundred from Josh Inglis. Chasing the target, India lost both the openers early and seemed to be in trouble. That was when Suryakumar Yadav joined a struggling Ishan Kishan. The two batters played some lovely strokes in the middle overs and took the game away from the visiting side. In the middle overs phase, the duo gave a huge lead to India.

The equation came down to run a ball around the 18th overs. That was when the team saw a collapse at one end. Rinku Singh was stranded at his end with the batters playing false shots at the other end. Axar Patel, Tilak Varma, Ravi Bishnoi, and everyone else threw their wicket away. Rinku held his nerves and finished the game for India with a six.

Rinku Singh not awarded the six runs

Despite hitting the winning shot. Rinku Singh was not awarded with the runs. With just a run needed in the last ball, Sean Abbott overstepped to gift India a run. The no ball was counted as a run for India, which denied six runs for Rinku. According to the rules of the apex board, no event after an extra would be counted when just one run would be needed for winning a match.

The clause 16.5.1 of the apex board states that “As soon as a result is reached as defined in clauses 16.1, 16.2 or 16.3.1, the match is at an end. Nothing that happens thereafter, except as in clause 41.17.2 (Penalty runs), shall be regarded as part of it.” As Abbott bowled a no-ball, India was handed a run and Rinku was not awarded his six runs.
