‘Holder ko kya ghas chilne ke liye rakha hai’ – Fans react as RCB beat RR by 7 runs in last-over thriller
In the 32nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 runs in a nail-biting thriller. Star India bowler Harshal Patel defended 20 runs in the last over to clinch back-to-back victories for RCB. A slow batting approach in middle overs cost Rajasthan Royals a game.
Earlier, after winning the toss, RR skipper Sanju Samson opted to bowl first as he believed in his bowlers. The team got an amazing start as Trent Boult dismissed Virat Kohli for a golden duck and Shahbaz Ahmed also failed to capitalise on the opportunity. This led RCB to crumble as they were two down for 12 runs in 2nd over. Though, it didn’t stop RCB from hammering other bowlers. Faf du Plessis along with Glen Maxwell added 127 runs for the third wicket.
Maxwell in his innings scored 77 runs off 44 balls with the help of four sixes and six fours. On the other hand, Du Plessis scored 62 runs off 39 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes. Maxwell was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin while Faf got run out. After their dismissal, other batters failed to put up a show as RCB got restricted to 189-9 in 20 overs. For RR, Boult and Sandeep Sharma clinched two wickets each while Ashwin and Chahal got a wicket each.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s slow innings cost Rajasthan Royals
Chasing 190 RR got a terrible start as Mohammad Siraj dismissed Jos Buttler for a golden duck. After his departure, Yashasvi Jaiswal along with Devdutt Padikkal added 98 runs for the second wicket. Their partnership was broken due to the pressure built by the slow batting approach. In the middle overs (11-15) the duo specially Jaiswal failed to capitalise on the opportunities as he was nearing his half-century.
This slow batting approach cost RR a match as both set batters got out soon. Jaiswal in his innings scored 47 runs off 37 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, Padikkal in his innings scored 52 runs off 34 balls with the help of seven boundaries and a six. Skipper Samson and Shimron Hetmyer also failed to build a partnership and eventually, RR lost the game.
In the end, Dhruv Jorel’s 34 off 16 threatened RCB but in the last over Harshal Patel held the nerves and won the match for them. Patel bowled exceptionally as he clinched three wickets. Meanwhile, Siraj and Willey got a wicket each.
