On 3 September 2022, the super four of the ongoing Asia Cup kicked off. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka qualified from their respective groups. In the first match, Afghanistan took on Sri Lanka in Sharjah. However, both teams were in the same group earlier. Then, Afghanistan defeated them in a one-sided affair.

Hence, the stage was set for a great match between these two sides. Afghanistan won both their matches in the group stage. On the other hand, Sri Lanka qualified after defeating Bangladesh in a thriller. Speaking of the match, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss. He opted to bowl in this crucial match.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 84 runs off 45 balls against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022

For Afghanistan, Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz came out to open the innings. They both gave their country a blistering start again. However, Zazai lost his wicket after the team reached 46 runs in 4.5 overs. But, Gurbaz continued his big-hitting against the Sri Lankan bowlers. In the group stage also, he scored 40 runs off 18 balls against them while chasing 106 runs. Against Bangladesh, he departed early after scoring 11 runs off 18 balls. 

But, in this match, he scored 84 runs off 45 balls only, including four boundaries and six over-boundaries. Gurbaz smashed those runs at a strike rate of 186.66. His innings helped Afghanistan to post a huge total of 175 runs on the board. They lost six wickets in 20 overs. Only Madushanka took two wickets for Sri Lanka in the match. After this innings, Gurbaz is currently the highest run-scorer in this edition of the Asia Cup. He has scored 135 runs in three innings, at an average of 45. Meanwhile, fans loved the way he batted again in this tournament. They came up with a heap of praises for this batter on social media platforms. Even, they started to urge the Gujarat franchise to play him in the next edition of the Indian T20 League.
