Andre Russell ran himself out in one of the most bizarre fashions in a Bangladesh Premier League game. Russell is representing the Minister Group Dhaka side in the tournament. He was playing against Khulna Titans in the second game of the tournament. The Titans won the toss and elected to field first.

Dhaka got off to a great start as they got 56 runs in six overs without losing any wicket. Openers Mohammad Shahzad and Tamim Iqbal stitched a partnership of 68 runs before Shahzad (42) was run out on the first ball of the ninth over. Iqbal went on to score a fifty before was dismissed by Kamrul Islam.

At this stage, the scorecard read 109/2 in 13.1 overs. Skipper Mahmudullah came into bat and hit a first-ball six to start his innings. In the fifteenth over, former Sri Lanka player Thisara Perera came in to bowl and clean bowled Mohammad Naim (9).

In came Andre Russell, who hit a second-ball six on the fifth ball of the over after opening his account with a single on the third.

On the last ball of the over, Russell wanted to change the strike and went for a single towards the third man. The fielder Mahedi Hasan was inside the circle and threw the ball towards the striker’s end. The ball hit the stumps but Mahmudullah was safely home. However, unfortunately for Russell, the ball deflected off the stumps and went on to hit the stumps on another side as Russell was short of the crease.
