Huge blow for Bangladesh as Ebadot Hossain gets ruled out of ODI World Cup 2023 due to injury
Bangladesh cricket team is getting ready to face Sri Lanka in their first game of the 2023 Asia Cup. The match is set to be played on Thursday 31st August at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the first game of the tournament, Bangladesh has been dealt a severe blow. Right-arm pace bowler, Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the 2023 ODI World Cup due to injury. The news was confirmed on Wednesday by the Bangladesh board.
The Bangladeshi player had suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. This injury had already ruled him out of the 2023 Asia Cup. There was hope and belief he would be fit for the ODI World Cup to be held in India. The loss of Ebadot Hossain is a huge blow for Bangladesh considering the talents the right-arm pacer had. It is expected that Ebadot will be out of action for nearly four months which means he will miss the ODI World Cup. Tanzim Shakib has been named as his replacement for the Asia Cup 2023 squad.
Massive blow for Bangladesh as replacement named
Speaking to the media, Bangladesh selector Minhajul Abedin said to Cricbuzz “He (Ebadot) will not be available for us in the World Cup. It’s a big blow for us as he will require an operation on his knee. Following the operation he will certainly take some time for rehabilitation purposes, at least three to four months, so we cannot consider him for the World Cup,”
With a run of form where Ebadot had picked 22 wickets from 12 ODI matches, the 29-year-old was a star performer for his side. Coach Chandika Hathurusingha too was distraught at the injury of his star player. The Sri Lanka-born Bangladesh coach said “It is very sad that Ebadot is not with us because he was an important part of our team and taking that into consideration it is quite disappointing,” The Bangladesh coach said in the press conference before leaving for the Asia Cup. “Ebadot is one of our impact bowlers, the fastest bowler out of the five fast bowlers we played in the last few series. So, it’s a big loss, and to replace him straight away it’s a hard task,” he added.
Ebadot last played for Bangladesh against Afghanistan, where he played one test match and one ODI game. In the test match, he picked five wickets with a best of 4/47 in the 1st innings at Mirpur. In the only ODI before getting injured, Ebadot Hossain picked 1/61 against Afghanistan.
