‘Hum jeet gaye’ – Fans react as India beat England by 100 runs in ODI World Cup 2023

India overcame England in a stunning way in Ekana stadium in Lucknow in the ongoing ODI WC 2023. The home side was all over England on a tricky wicket to bat on. India comfortably defended a total of 229 runs and made a mockery of England’s batting lineup with a fantastic performance with the ball. The crowd was literally behind the Indian players.

Jos Buttler won the toss and asked India to bat first. On a surface which started to seam right from the start, India batted well. Despite losing some early wickets, India came back well. India lost Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer early. The English new ball duo of Chris Woakes and David Willey bowled well and got the early wickets for their team. India needed stability in their batting.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul provided exactly that. The duo assessed the conditions well and realized that it was not the easiest of the tracks to bat. Hence, they respected the bowlers and went after the bowlers after getting settled in the middle. Rahul scored 39 runs, but it was Rohit who shined with the bat and scored a fantastic 87(101). Suryakumar Yadav was brilliant as a finisher.

Exceptional bowling from the Indian unit

The unorthodox batter brought sweep shots and played an impactful cameo. In their 50 overs, India scored 229 runs. Chasing the target, England never looked to be in the game. Jasprit Bumrah was on fire straightaway. The Indian pacer got Dawid Malan and Joe Root in back-to-back deliveries. Mohammed Shami continued the good start with his seam bowling.

Shami dismissed Stokes and Bairstow soon. The back of England’s batting was broken. Kuldeep Yadav later ran through the lower middle order of England. Ravindra Jadeja bowled an economical spell from his end. The English batters seemed to have no answers to India’s bowling. They fell like a pack of cards. Despite dew setting in, the Indian bowlers bowled extremely well. India dismissed England for a total of 129 runs and sealed the match by 100 runs.
