 “I am now 40-year-old”: MS Dhoni’s reason behind stepping down as captain of Chennai

The fans and supporters of the Chennai franchise in the Indian T20 League were surprised when they learned that MS Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of the team. The fact that ‘captain cool’ will no longer lead Chennai was announced by the franchise through a post on their official website. The post also revealed that the team’s new leader will be Ravindra Jadeja.

Within a day of the surprising piece of news, reports have gone around the internet about MS Dhoni’s thinking behind the decision. The report claims that Dhoni told the team management that he is 40-year-old now and can’t continue leading the side forever.

As reported by Cricbuzz the CEO of the Chennai team was startled when Dhoni let him know about his decision. Though he assured him that he will be there to guide Ravindra Jadeja into the role. A source close to the Chennai team revealed that N.Srinivasan’s office in Chennai received a call from the team hotel in Mumbai with a request that Dhoni wants to speak with him. Srinivasan being busy at that moment called back later around noon, when Dhoni communicated his decision to him.

A source was quoted in the report said that there was little discussion over Dhoni’s decision as the team follows him blindly. The report also reveals that when the CEO asked MSD about his plans on playing as a player, he said that he wants to play his last match in Chennai but will be available for one or two seasons.

An inside from the Chennai franchise said that the team will keep backing on Jadeja in the new role as they have done till now. According to him the discussions at the coaching level were already on and they kept a close track of Jadeja’s performance in the Sri Lanka series.
