Indian leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, recently, revealed that he had to skip his 12th board exam as he was the net bowler in the Rajasthan Franchise during the Indian T20 League in 2018. The 22-year-old will be playing for the Lucknow franchise in the upcoming season of the tournament.

Bishnoi also said that is was very difficult for him to convince his parents, especially his father who is a government teacher by profession. He said that he joined the cricket academy at the age of 10 and then decided to give up on his studies at 15 years of age.

“I missed Class XIIth boards as I was a net bowler with Rajasthan franchise. My father was called me and sternly asked me to come back but the coach told me that I will have to be here. Then I decided to skip the boards that year but finished it next year,” Bishnoi said on the Podcast by the Lucknow franchise.

“At the age of 10, I joined a cricket academy and when I turned 15, I decided to give up on my studies. I was not getting time from cricket. It was difficult to convince the parents. My coaches then told my father to let me continue with cricket because of my talent,” he further added.

Ravi Bishnoi was also the leading wicket-taker for India in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020 and played a crucial role in the Indian team getting into the finals. However, India couldn’t win the trophy that year as they lost to Bangladesh in the final who clinched their maiden title in Under-19 World Cup.

‘I also said few things that I am not very proud of’ – Bishnoi

After the match, there was a heated moment between the players of India and Bangladesh which later turned out to be a physical spat between them. Bishnoi also recalled that incident and said that he never sledged anyone after that.

“In the U-19 WC final, they were sledging our batters a lot, and they did cross the line, and when our turn came we returned the favour,” said Bishnoi.

“After the win, they crossed the line. They started mocking us on our faces, and in the heat of the moment, I also said few things that I am not very proud of. After that final, I have never sledged anyone,” he further added.
