Shaheen Shah Afridi put his slow start to the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament behind him. The 23-year-old picked a memorable five-wicket haul against Australia in his last game versus Australia.

Ravi Shastri the former Indian coach is one known to have a firm opinion on the game. Now doing commentary during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament, Ravi Shastri has given his frank opinion on Shaheen Afridi.

Wasim Akram the former Pakistani skipper and pace legend has now responded to Shastri’s comments. The former left-arm pacer is covering the ongoing tournament in Pakistan.

Wasim Akram gives his response to Ravi Shastri –

Speaking during a show in Pakistan, Wasim Akram was asked about the comments by Ravi Shastri on Shaheen Afridi. The former Pakistani skipper said “I read about it. Ravi is a good friend of mine, that’s his opinion. If you want to draw comparisons with any top bowlers of the world, Shaheen is one of the best right now”

Wasim Akram went on to add “He may be out of touch, low on confidence but he will make a comeback. He is young, he gets his rhythm back when he plays test cricket, he starts taking wickets, he’s on the right track”

Ravi Shastri during his commentary stint had made some interesting comments on Shaheen Shah Afridi. The incident happened during the India versus Pakistan game in Ahmedabad which India had won by 7 wickets.

The former India coach said “he’s a good bowler, he can claim wickets with the new ball. But you have to admit it, if Naseem Shah is not playing and the quality of Pakistan’s spin bowling is like this. Then Shaheen Afridi koi Wasim Akram Nahi hai! Acha bowler hai, lekin itna bhi zyada chadana ka koi zaroorat nahi hai. Jab theek hai, toh bolna chaiye who theek hai, chadhake nahi bithana nahi chaiye ki bahut zabardast hai. Yeh nahi hai! Manna padega”

Naseem Shah had injured himself during the 2023 Asia Cup game versus India. The Pakistanis re-called Hasan Ali but he hasn’t been as effective so far. Shaheen Afridi came in with a huge fanfare before the 2023 ODI World Cup. The 23-year-old though has been a huge source of disappointment for his team and its fans.
