‘I think this is because of too much cricket’ – Former India cricketer analyses problem behind Shubman Gill’s low scores

Former Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh recently analysed Shubman Gill’s performance in the game between India and Pakistan held on 2 September at Kandy, Sri Lanka. The match was abandoned after the first innings due to constant heavy rains, which led to the game being declared as a draw.

While batting first, opening batsman Gill registered an extremely low total, which was justified by multiple Cricket exports as a good decision to handle the consistently collapsing wickets. Shubman Gill scored only 10 runs off 32 balls with a strike rate of 31.25 as he smashed only a single boundary. Despite his low scores, Gill has been consistently backed by the team for his exceptional skills.

Harbhajan recently got in a conversation with India today and talked about the challenges faced by Shubman Gill. He blamed his recent lack of consistency due to playing too much Cricket without rest. Notably, the opening batter had an exceptional season in the Indian Premier League 2023 where his team franchise, Gujarat Titans was awarded as the runners-up.

Harbhajan Singh on Shubman Gill’s batting skills

Harbhajan Singh showed utmost confidence in Shubman Gill and said that he will be expecting runs soon since there is nothing wrong with his technique, and just a matter of low confidence, which will be backed by him and the team soon.

I think this is because of too much cricket. He has been playing for quite a while now. He had a great IPL. Every player needs some rest because IPL is a very demanding tournament. You go to travel and also play every second day. I feel he just needs a bit of a break. He’s a quality player and there’s no doubt about that,” said Harbhajan Singh.

“He will come back to form and start scoring runs. I believe there’s nothing wrong with his technique and the way he’s batting. But it’s just that his confidence is a bit low and I’m sure if he gives himself a bit more time, he’s going to come good,” concluded Harbhajan Singh.
