Star India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been phenomenal throughout his career. He has been one of the most skilled spinners in recent times, especially in limited-over formats. However, in the last few years, he has been inconsistent in the Indian team and has failed to impress team management with his wicket-taking abilities.

One of the biggest setbacks in his career has been not being part of the 2021 T20 World Cup. He was dropped from the squad, which shocked everyone, including Chahal. Speaking about the same incident, Chahal termed it the most difficult time of his career. He said, “I don’t cry a lot, but I went to the bathroom and cried a little. When I was not picked up for the 2021 T20 World Cup, I felt the saddest.”

“I had to play the IPL in Dubai at that time. She was with me at that time. The next day, we had to catch a flight to Dubai. We had to go there to continue the IPL matches that were postponed due to COVID. We also had to quarantine for a week. Otherwise, you could have gone out to relax. The best thing was that she was with me, so I could control my anger. If she had not been there, I would have been more frustrated.”

“I was playing under Virat then”, Chahal says while expressing his disbelief

Further speaking about his captain Virat Kohli and how he felt, Chahal said that he never asked about it to anyone. “I was feeling strange because Virat was the captain and I was playing under Virat there as well. But I never asked anyone why I wasn’t picked. I have never asked”, Chahal said while speaking with Ranveer Allahabadia on the Beer Biceps podcast.

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal had a great IPL 2021 season, taking 18 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 20.77. Despite this, he was not considered for India’s selection for the T20 World Cup in 2021. In the next two seasons of the IPL (2022 and 2023), he also performed amazingly and is currently looking for a spot in the ODI World Cup. The marquee tournament is scheduled from October 5 to November 19 in India.
