‘I will never understand…’ – Former India batter’s bold statement on Delhi Capital’s poor start in IPL 2023
After losing the last match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last-ball thriller by one wicket, at the home ground, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, April 15 at the M. Chinnaswammy Stadium. RCB won the match by 23 runs and former India skipper, Virat Kohli was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.
It’s interesting to note that the Capitals’ dugout has some of cricket’s greatest names. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, a three-time World Cup champion, serves as the team’s head coach, and former India captain Sourav Ganguly serves as its director. Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, and Anrich Nortje are among the other notable players on the squad in addition to Warner, but the management has still to decide on the ideal lineup for its starting XI.
You have to pick players who can win you matches: Virender Sehwag
Former India opener Virender Sehwag recently made an intriguing comment about prominent players in the IPL dugout in the midst of a number of poor performances. Sehwag completely asserted that prominent figures in the dugout don’t improve the team’s results as he and former Indian cricketer Rajat Bhatia addressed DC’s problems this year.
“To be honest with you, there’s zero value of the staff that’s present there. It doesn’t matter who strong your team is, it’s the players who are performing badly out there. You can have as many great minds as you like in the dressing room, if your players aren’t scoring runs or taking wickets, what they will do?” Sehwag was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.
“I will never understand that. You have to pick players who can win you matches, and you don’t have to direct them everytime. When you have those players, you can become champions. Delhi do have those players, but they’re not scoring runs or taking wickets. You can make strategies, in the end, those who enter the ground have to perform,” the right-hand batter added
