The women’s cricket team’s head coach Amol Muzumdar has shown his interest in creating a separate pool for fast bowlers from the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The coach sees the ongoing tournament as an opportunity to look for players who are talented and capable enough to perform on the big stage if given a chance. Thus, the coach is set to start a pool to identify some quality pace bowling attacks that will help in the upcoming T20 World Cup which is just seven months away.

Muzumdar said, “Four fast bowlers played the last series (against Australia). I want to create a pool of fast bowlers (from the WPL). It makes a lot of difference if you strengthen the bowling attack. There is an upscale movement in India’s batters. The confidence from those two series against England and Australia is on display (here) because of how they performed there.”

After Julan Goswami’s retirement, the Indian bowling attack has seen a sudden downfall in recent years. Thus, the coach wants to have some good players in the team who can create the possibility of winning the World Cup.

‘Sajana’s six gives you an idea of the depth in Indian cricket’ – Coach Amol Muzumdar praises Sajeevan Sajana

In the first match of the WPL, Mumbai Indians needed five runs in just one ball to win the match. The shocking part for the MI dugout was the wicket at the second last ball. Thus, the entry of a new batter to the crease to play the last ball of the match was a tough situation for the entire team. MI’s 6th down player Sajeevan Sajana, who was a debutant, came in to bat for the very first time.

However, to everybody’s surprise, Sajana turned the very first ball of her career into a beautiful memory by hitting it for a six. With that, Mumbai Indians won the match by four wickets. Referring to this match, Coach Amol Muzumdar said that the batters are quite confident these days when it comes to playing under pressure. He also praised Sajana for using her presence of mind and trying to go after the ball even in such a tough situation.

“Sajana’s six gives you an idea of the depth in Indian cricket,” Muzumdar was quoted saying to ESPNCricinfo.
