The defending champions Gujarat Titans are all set to don the special Lavender colour jerseys in their last home game in IPL 2023 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 15. GT players will wear these jerseys to show their support in the fight against cancer when they will face SRH for match number 62 of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The lavender colour symbolizes all types of cancer and it serves as a powerful reminder of the lives that got affected by this deadly disease, a release said. The initiative aims to highlight the critical issue of cancer, which is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality in India and worldwide.

By wearing a lavender jersey, GT’s main aim is to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of the disease and prevent it by emphasising the crucial role that lifestyle changes can play in combating cancer. With this initiative, the franchise hopes to inspire people to learn more about cancer prevention and the changes that are required in the lifestyle to reduce the risk of developing the disease.

‘We hope our actions will inspire others…’ – Hardik Pandya

“Cancer is a battle fought by millions in India and across the globe, and as a team, we feel responsible towards raising awareness about this deadly disease,” said GT skipper Hardik Pandya as quoted in India TV.

“Wearing lavender jerseys is our way of showing solidarity with cancer patients, survivors, and their families. We hope our actions will inspire others to take preventive measures and support those who are fighting this battle,” he further added.

GT is having a great season so far in IPL 2023 as they remain at the top of the points table by winning eight out of 12 matches and are on the verge of qualifying for the playoffs for the second consecutive time. However, they suffered a defeat in their last game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

MI posted a huge total of 218 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Suryakumar Yadav smashed his maiden IPL hundred as he remanded unbeaten on 103 runs off just 49 balls hitting 11 fours and six sixes. In reply, GT fell short of 27 runs from MI’s total despite Rashid Khan’s heroics. The 24-year-old remained unbeaten by smashing 79 runs off just 32 balls with three fours and 10 sixes.
