“If he looks after his body and makes sure he’s right” – Pat Cummins about Nathan Lyon
Meanwhile, Lyon’s teammate and Australia skipper Pat Cummins came up with a big statement while speaking of the modern-day Aussie bowling great. Cummins also backed Lyon to play for Australia for the next 3-4 more years.
“I’d love for him to keep going until 2027. The only barrier is his body, so if he looks after his body and makes sure he’s right for 10 Test matches a year, or whatever it is, I’d love him to play until 2027,” said Cummins to reports during the post-match press interaction.
“And I don’t think there’s much that’s going to get in his way. I’ve already told him the day he retires I’m giving up the captaincy because it makes my life a helluva lot easier,” he added later.
Furthermore, the Aussie skipper also spoke about the importance of Nathan Lyon in the team and his impact on the plans of the team. Cummins also explained how having Lyon in the lineup makes things quite easy.
“It’s a captain’s dream. There’s a real sense of calm out there when you know you’ve got someone that good on a wicket that’s giving him a little bit of help,” Cummins said.
