Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a topsy turvy season so far in the Indian Premier League 2023. With 4 wins in 8 matches, they find themselves sitting at number five on the table.
Star batters, namely Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell have been in phenomenal form. Faf du Plessis (442 runs) and Virat Kohli (333 runs), currently, occupies the top two positions in the highest run-getters list this season. Maxwell is sitting at 11th position with 258 runs at a strike rate of close to 190. The trio has played a big role in helping RCB secure four wins this season. The bowling unit too has performed well but it’s the middle order which has disappointed.
RCB haven’t been able to finish well in the death overs and the biggest reason behind that is the poor form of Dinesh Karthik. The Indian wicket-keeper batter has had a forgettable season thus far. He has not managed to play a single impactful knock this season.
In 8 matches, he has scored only 83 runs at a poor average of 11.86. In the first match against MI, Karthik got out on a duck, while in the next two games against KKR and Lucknow, he mustered 9 and 1, respectively,
In the next five matches in the competition, Karthik’s scores read: 0, 28, 7, 16, and 22. It has been a forgettable season from him but he needs to come back in form if RCB fancy their chances in the top four.
