New franchise T20 Leagues are going to happen in next year in South Africa and UAE respectively. Meanwhile, the Indian T20 League franchises are going to back those leagues financially. Hence, top Indian players were expected to be available for the inaugural seasons of those leagues.

But, as of now, no contracted Indian players will not be able to join any foreign league as per the current policy of the Indian Cricket Board. Earlier, reports were there that MS Dhoni could join the Chennai franchise-owned team in South Africa as a mentor. But a few days back, a Board official confirmed that Dhoni needs to cut all ties with the Board before even joining any league outside of the Indian T20 League.

Whatever we are hearing it is through media reports. If it is true, it is extremely illogical and unfair.” – a top Indian T20 League franchise management official

Speaking to Insidesport, a top franchise management official said that all franchises have not heard anything until now from the Board officially. However, whatever reports that have been heard, if those are true, then they found it ‘illogical’.

The official said: “See we are yet to hear anything officially from the Indian Cricket Board so far. Whatever we are hearing is through media reports. If it is true, the stand-by Indian Cricket Board is extremely illogical and unfair. We could have used our support staff and ecosystem in these foreign ventures. If the Indian Cricket Board stops that it will be really unfair. Several international boards have requested India to allow their players in foreign leagues. But, they are quite stuck on their decision.

Recently, a Board official expressed his concern about the recent development regarding this matter. “The Indian Cricket Board has created a brand Indian T20 League and the entire sporting world is in awe of it. We have to protect our brand. We are very concerned when the name of Indian T20 League owners is associated with every foreign league. They are free to invest wherever they want. But we will not allow any kind of brand leveraging on account of the Indian T20 League. No Indian player past or present would be allowed to join these leagues.” the Board official concluded.
