A new T20 League is going to happen in South Africa next year. Indian T20 League franchises are backing that league financially. Hence, players from the Indian franchise are expected to be available for the inaugural season. However, as per several reports, MS Dhoni can join his Chennai-owned team in that CSA T20 League as a mentor.

But, his participation can be an issue due to the current policies of the Indian Cricket Board. An official from the Indian Cricket Board said that he needs to retire from all forms of the game before even considering joining any foreign leagues in the coming days.

“Then MS Dhoni can’t play for Chennai. He has to retire here first” – Board Official on MS Dhoni’s chances of joining the CSA T20 League

Speaking to the Indian Express, one Board official said that no player can join any foreign T20 league while he is under the Indian Cricket Board. According to the current policies, contracted players need to retire and cut all of their ties with the Board before participating in any leagues.

He said: “It’s clear, no Indian player including domestic players can take part in any other league until he is retired from all forms of the game. If any player wants to take part in these upcoming leagues he can only do so when he cuts off all ties with the Indian Cricket Board,” The official also added MS Dhoni needs to retire first. If he takes this decision, then he can not play in the Indian T20 League for his Chennai franchise anymore.

“Then he can’t play Indian T20 League for Chennai. He has to retire here first,” the Board Official concluded. Speaking of this new tournament, six different franchises have owned their teams already. Some marquee players have already confirmed their availability for the inaugural season of the CSA T20 League. Former South African skipper, Faf du Plessis is all set to join the Chennai franchise again in this new league.
