The hosts of Asia Cup, 2023, Pakistan recently, got eliminated from the tournament’s final match after losing their decider match against Sri Lanka on 14 September. Pakistan has become a camp of injuries after their main bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah recently got injured during the team’s match against archrivals India in the super four stage of the tournament.

India and Pakistan met on 12 September for the Super Four match which got washed away due to rains and was shifted to 13th September. However, before the game could begin on 13th, the Pakistan cricket board informed that Harris Rauf will not be able to bowl considering a spasm, and Naseem Shah got injured while bowling the rest of the overs. The team’s captain Babar Azam, recently talked about the injury updates of the fast bowlers since they might miss initial matches of ODI World Cup 2023.

Babar Azam on Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah’s injury follow up

“I’ll tell you later, not telling you our Plan B now. But yes, Haris Rauf is not bad. He’s just got a little bit of a side strain, but he’s recovering before the World Cup. Naseem Shah also… they have a couple of miss matches, I don’t know [how long] the recovery [is], but in my opinion, Naseem Shah also [will be] in the World Cup later on. But let’s see,”said Babar Azam while talking to ESPNcricinfo.

“In the end, we decided to bowl our best bowlers. That’s why I decided to bowl Shaheen the second last over and then we believed in Zaman Khan for the final over. SL played really well, they played better cricket than us, that’s why they won. We weren’t up to the mark with our bowling and fielding, that’s why we lost. (One major factor that could have been different) In the middle overs, we are not bowling well. That partnership (between Mendis and Samarawickrama) cost us. We are starting well, we are finishing well, but we are not taking wickets in the middle overs”, said Babar Azam in the post match ceremony after elimination from Asia Cup 2023.
