India beat archrivals Pakistan by 2-1 in Squash to win gold in Asian games 2023

The Indian athletics team has brought yet another laurel for the country in the Asian games, 2023 taking the gold medal tally for India to 10 and overall medal tally to 36. As of now, the Indian players have brought 10 gold medals and 13 silver and bronze medals each across multiple Sports in the 19th edition of the Asian games, 2023 which is being conducted in Hangzhou, China from 23 September to 8 October. 

Indian Squash team has defeated the archrivals Pakistan to win the gold medal in the squash men’s event in the 110th year of the continental games, the Asian games 2023. India won the men’s event by 2-1 on day 7 of the tournament on 30 September, Saturday in the final encounter. 

The Indian squash men’s team have upgraded themselves from the previous season of the Asian Games which were held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2018.  The Indian men’s squash team won a bronze medal in the continental tournament in 2018. 

The Best of the three tie game commenced with the Indian player Mahesh Mangaonkar losing to Nasir Iqbal, which was later covered by Saurav Ghosal as he beat the Pakistani squash player Muhammad Asim Khan. The final showdown took place between Abhay Singh and Noor Zaman, wherein Abhay player defeated Zaman by 3-2 to lead India towards the gold medal. 

Match summary between India and Pakistan Men’s squash event 

Mahesh Mangaonkar lost 0-3 ( 8-11, 3-11, 2-11) to Nasir Iqbal. 

Saurav Ghosal win 3-0 (11-5, 11-1, 11-3) against Muhammad Asim Khan 

Abhay Singh win 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10) over Noor Zaman.
