The host nation, India, of the world’s biggest cricket tournament, the ODI World Cup 2023, is all set to begin their campaign for the tournament in their home against the most successful team in the tournament, Australia, on 8 October at the M Chidambaram stadium (popularly known as the Chepauk stadium) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Fans can witness the live action from 2 PM IST.

India and Australia’s highly anticipated encounter might be disrupted as the high-intensity event might experience some showers. The fans’ experience might be interrupted as Chennai has been witnessing multiple regular showers for a few days now. Yesterday the coastal city experienced 11 mm of precipitation, which upset the fans as they expressed their sadness over social media.

As per Google Weather and India Meteorological Department’s weather report, Chennai is expected to have an 11-17% chance of rain. The afternoon temperatures are expected to be 32°C. While the temperature will see a drop towards the sunset and is expected to be around 29°C. The humidity levels are expected to be around 80% before sunset and rise later. The sky will be partly cloudy with a coverage of 30%. 

India vs Australia’s recent encounters 

Ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, India and Australia met for a three-match mini ODI series across multiple venues in India to prepare for the marquee clash that will be taking place in Chennai. India won the series by 2-1, as they were in the first 2 ODIs under the leadership of KL Rahul. 

India and Australia both rested their key players for the initial matches of the series to give the other players a chance ahead of the tournament and select their playing 11. While India rested the team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya, Australia rested their players like Glenn Maxwell.
