India is the only team in the tournament that has remained unbeaten and has won all the games, while New Zealand qualified for the semifinals in the last match against Sri Lanka.

Previously, India and New Zealand encountered the league stage match on 22 October in Dharamsala and India won the game while chasing by four wickets. The match became the first game after 20 years for the Indians to win against New Zealand in a major Cricket league tournament.
