Bangalore and Mumbai locked horns in the 18th match of the Indian T20 League 2022.  The match was held at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Bangalore won the toss and decided to put Mumbai to bat. Mumbai started their innings on a great note. The openers in Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan took their team to 50 runs in the seventh over. But on the second delivery of the seventh over Harshal Patel dismissed Rohit Sharma for 26 runs off 15 deliveries. From there won Mumbai experienced a collapse losing the next 5 wickets for just 29 runs. The Mumbai innings was reeling at 79 for 6 in the 14th over of their innings. Suryakumar Yadav looked determined to take his team to a good total. Jaydev Unadkat understood the need of the moment and kept handing over the strike to Suryakumar, who kept the Mumbai scoreboard ticking. At the end of the 20th over Mumbai did not lose any more wickets and finished with a total of 151 runs. From the stage that they were in 151 looked like a commendable effort, but as per the playing conditions, the total looked 15- 20 runs short of the par score.

Suryakumar’s knock under pressure earned him a lot of praise on social media. Notably, Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers for Bangalore picking up 2 wickets for 23 runs from his 4 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga also chipped in with 3 wickets for the men in red.

Bangalore had a steady start to their chase. Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat put up a partnership of 50 runs for Bangalore in the first nine overs. Du Plessis was dismissed in the 9th over of the innings for 16 runs off 24 deliveries by Jaydev Undakat. Virat Kohli walked into the crease and joined Rawat in the middle. The duo picked up the run rate just at the right time and provide the team with the dynamism they required at the stage. The duo of Kohli and Rawat continued without much trouble from the Mumbai bowlers. By the end of the 15th over Bangalore was 111 for 1, requiring 41 runs of the last five overs. The target looked easy for the men in red with 9 wickets still in hand.

Anuj Rawat was ultimately dismissed courtesy of a brilliant direct-hit by Ramandeep Singh. He walked out with 66 runs off 47 deliveries with 6 sixes and 2 fours. It was a special knock from the youngster in a high-voltage match.  Virat Kohli was dismissed in the 18th over by Dewald Brevis for 48 runs off 36 deliveries. But it was a bit too late for Mumbai. Glenn Maxwell slammed Brevis for two fours and Bangalore won the match by 7 wickets with 9 balls remaining in the match. Bangalore won their third match of the tournament, while Mumbai has managed four defeats in as many matches.

The fans trolled Mumbai for their dismal run in the season.
