The 34th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 saw Delhi and Rajasthan lock horns at the Dy Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The pitch was a belter and the batters made the most of it scoring 400 plus runs in the match.

Delhi won the toss and put Rajasthan into bat. The men in pink had a blazing start to their innings as Buttler looked like he never switched off his beast mode after the last match. Devdatt Padikkal played the role of a perfect partner to Buttler as he kept rotating the strike and took occasional risks, while the English wicket-keeper batter played the role of the aggressor. The duo put together a partnership of 155 runs within 15 overs before Padikkal was dismissed. Before walking out the left-hander scored 54 runs off 35 deliveries hitting seven fours and two sixes in his knock. Sanju Samson joined Buttler in the middle and continued to ride on the momentum the opening partnership provided. Buttler was ultimately brought to halt by Khaleel Ahmed after he scored 116 runs off 65 deliveries, hitting nine fours and nine sixes. He brought down hell on all the Delhi bowlers on his path to the third century of the season. Samson scored a quickfire 46 runs off 19 deliveries helping Rajasthan to a huge total of 222 runs for the loss of two wickets in their 20 overs.

Delhi was chasing a humungous total and they needed a quick and solid start to be on the track from the very beginning. The openers gave them an electric start scoring 43 runs in 4.2 overs, but David Warner (28 off 14) was dismissed at this stage. Sarfraz Khan failed to make any impact as he followed Warner soon and Delhi was 48 for two down within the sixth over. Rishabh Pant joined Prithvi Shaw at the crease and the stitched a partnership of 51 runs before Shaw was dismissed. The right hander scored 37 off 27 deliveries as Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed him. With the fall of Shaw, Delhi was three down for 99 runs in ten overs. Rishabh Pant started to change the momentum of the game from the stage with his brutal striking. But Prasidh Krishna removed the danger for Rajasthan in Rishabh (44 off 24)  and put Delhi under a huge pressure. After the 15th over of the innings Delhi was 149 for five down needing 74 runs of five overs. The required rate was hovering around 15 runs per over and with not much batting left to come, the chances for Delhi seemed very little.

But Rovman Powell (36 off 15) certainly was not going go down without a fight. He was well on his way to pull off something unreal. With 36 runs required of the last over, he smashed three consecutive sixes of the first three balls and a miracle was on the cards, But the fourth ball saw a controversial call form the umpire that led to the disruption of the play. This led to the loss of momentum for Powell and Delhi lost the match by 15 runs. Rajasthan won their fifth match of the tournament and are now at the top of the table.
