Lucknow and Delhi locked horns in the 15th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
KL Rahul, the skipper of the Lucknow team won the toss and decided to field first. David Warner was making his first appearance in this season for Delhi. The opening stand of the Delhi team gave a great start to them. Prithvi Shaw was the player who dominated in the partnership scoring most of the runs. Shaw was dismissed in the 8th over of the innings for 61 runs off 34 deliveries. In an opening stand of 67 runs, 61 came from Shaw’s bat. After Shaw got out Warner soon followed scoring 4 runs off 12 deliveries. The Delhi innings began to lose their momentum from thereon. Rishabh Pant and Sarfraz continued for their team until the end, but they could not break free. At the end of their 20 overs, they finished with a score of 149 runs. Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow taking 2 wickets from his 4 overs giving away just 22 runs.
Lucknow made a solid and steady start to the chase. The openers in Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul scored 73 runs for the first wicket. KL Rahul was dismissed for 24 off 25 deliveries by Kuldeep Yadav in the 10th over of the innings. One more wicket fell in the form of Evin Lewis, but De Kock looked immovable. After the 15th over mark Lucknow was 111 for 2 requiring 39 runs of the last 5 overs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up Quinton de Kock in the 16th over of the innings. De Kock scored 80 runs off 52 deliveries hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes. After De Kock walked back the Lucknow batters begun to lose the momentum. Krunal Pandya however kept his calm and scored 14 runs off the 19th over taking off the pressure. Lucknow required 5 runs in the last over with Hooda and Krunal in the middle. Shardul Thakur dismissed Deepak Hooda of the first ball of the final over, but young Ayush Badoni kept his come and won the match for his time with a six. Lucknow won the match by 6 wickets with two balls remaining.
