Indian T20 League 2022: Top 10 memes from Lucknow vs Kolkata match
The 53rd match of the Indian T20 League 2022 saw Lucknow take the field against Kolkata at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The match was a close affair as the two teams fought it out till the last.
Kolkata won the toss and decided to chase in the match. Lucknow received a shock at the very start of their innings as their skipper KL Rahul was run out without even playing a ball. Deepak Hooda joined Quinton de Kock in the middle and the duo stabilized the Lucknow innings. They put up a partnership of 73 runs from 37 balls and laid the foundation for the team. Quinton de Kock (50 of 29) was the second wicket to fall for Lucknow in the eighth over at the team’s score of 73 runs. Deepak Hooda (41 off 27) was the next man to be dismissed in the 13th over of the innings. Lucknow’s score at this stage was 107 runs. After this, they lost the momentum as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
However, Marcus Stoinis (30 of 14) and Jason Holder (13 of 4) got a hold of Shivam Mavi in the 19th over. The duo slammed five sixes in the over and scored 30 runs of it giving their team much-needed momentum towards the end of the innings. Lucknow finished with a total of 176 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Andre Russell was the pick of the bowlers for the Men in Purple as he picked up three for 22 in his four overs.
Kolkata’s start to the chase was miserable, to say the least. The Lucknow bowlers were impeccable with their line and length and they reduced the Men in Purple to 25 for 4 in 6.5 overs. The big names of the Kolkata top order Aaron Finch ( 14 of 14), Shreyas Iyer (6 of 9), and Nitish Rana (2 of 11) were all back in the hut. The responsibility of taking Kolkata to victory from this stage was now on Andre Russell. After Rinku Singh (6 of 10), Sunil Narine joined Russell, who was looking dangerous in the middle. Russell was dealing only with boundaries and the complexion of the match was changing steadily. But in the 13th over, Avesh Khan picked up the wicket of Andre Russell and gave the biggest setback to Kolkata’s hope. Russell played a fiery knock of 45 runs from 19 balls hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes. His dismissal shifted the balance completely in Lucknow’s favor. After his dismissal wickets continued to fall and Kolkata was bundled for 101 runs in the 15th overs. They lost the match by 75 runs which is the biggest margin in terms of runs in this season of Indian T20 League. It was Kolkata’s seventh loss in 11 matches, while Lucknow won their 8th in 11 matches and reached the top of the table.
