Indian T20 League 2022: Top 10 memes from the Punjab vs Delhi match

Punjab took on Delhi in the 64th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. On a pitch that got slower as the match progressed the Delhi spinners dominated the game and earned their team a convincing victory.
Punjab won the toss and decided to bowl first in the match. Delhi was rocked early as Liam Livingstone dismissed David Warner (0 of 1) of the first ball of the match. But Sarfraz Khan and Mitchell Marsh stabilized the Delhi and scored at a brisk rate. They stitched a partnership of 51 runs from just 28 balls and put the Delhi innings on track. Khan (32 of 16) was the second wicket to fall for the team in the 5th over being dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. Micthell Marsh however continued strong at the other end and formed another important partnership with Lalit Yadav of 47 runs. Yadav(24 of 21) was dismissed in the 11th over by Arshdeep. After this, the batters started finding it difficult on a pitch that gradually slowed down.
The likes of Rishabh Pant (7 of 3) and Rovman Powell (2 of 6) failed to consolidate on the start and did not impress much. It was majorly Mitchell Marsh’s 63 from 48 balls that helped Delhi reach a total of 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Liam Livingstone was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab with three wickets for 27 runs from his 4 overs. Arshdeep Singh also got three wickets but conceded 37 runs from his four overs.
Punjab got off to a blazing start in pursuit of their chase of Delhi’s moderate total. Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow were looking to take the match away from Delhi in the powerplays only until Bairstow (28 of 15) was dismissed in the 4th over. After this Punjab failed to stitch a steady and formidable partnership and kept losing wickets in the cluster. In a collapse, they lost 5 wickets for 14 runs and were derailed from the chase. The likes of Bhanuka Rajapaksa (4 of 5) and Liam Livingstone (3 of 5) failed to put up any significant effort and put their team in deep trouble. As the 15th over concluded Delhi looked far from the target at 101 for 7 needing 59 runs of 30 balls. With just 3 wickets in hand the target looked really tough for them.
Jitesh Sharma (44 of 34) tried to get Punjab close to the target but fell prey to a brilliant effort in the field by David Warner of the bowling of Shardul Thakur. Even though the equation looked achievable, the Punjab batting lacked the fire to go over the line. They ultimately got restricted to 142 runs in their 20 overs losing the match by 17runs. The pick of the bowler for Delhi was Shardul Thakur as he picked up 4 wickets for 36 runs from his 4 overs. It was Delhi’s 7th win 13 matches while Punjab lost their 7th match in 13 outings.
