Indian T20 League 2022: Top 10 memes Punjab vs Lucknow match
Punjab squared off against Lucknow in the 42nd match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The match was a close contest between the bat and the ball as the pitch provided a bit of assistance to the bowlers.
Punjab won the toss and put Lucknow to bat first. The Lucknow batting was hoping for a formidable start from their man in-form KL Rahul. But this did not happen as Rahul (46 of 37) became the first victim of Kagiso Rabada in the third over of the innings. From this stage De Kock and Deepak Hooda (34 of 28) stitched a partnership of 85 runs and laid a strong foundation for the team. De Kock (46 of 37) was the second wicket to fall for Lucknow in the 13th oner. Lucknow’s score at this stage was 98 for 2 and they looked on course for a formidable total.
But the Punjab bowlers made a strong comeback picking up five wickets for just 13 runs. They reduced Lucknow to 126 for 7 in 17.4 overs. It was with the help of the cameos played by Duhsmantha Chameera (17 of 10) and Mohsin Khan (13 of 6) that they reached a total of 153 runs from their 20 overs. Great execution on part of the Punjab bowlers restricted Lucknow to a total that was 25-30 runs short of what the men in blue were expecting to reach. Kagiso Rabada finished with the best figures for Punjab. He picked up four wickets for 38 runs from his four overs.
Punjab’s start to the chase was pretty decent. But they lost their skipper, Mayank Agarwal (25 of 17) in the fifth over of the innings at a score of 35 runs. Shikhar Dhawan (5 of 15) did not stay long after that and was dismissed in the seventh over. From there on they kept losing wickets and lost their way. Big guns like Bhanuka Rajapaksa (9 of 7) and Liam Livingstone (18 of 16) did noy fire and the men in red were reduced to 92 for five by the 14th over. Jonny Bairstow was batting steadily at one end and was carrying the hopes of his team on his shoulders. But the major concern for Punjab was that Bairstow was running out of partners.
As the 15th over finished Punjab was 103 for 5 and needed 51 runs in the last five overs. The only ray of hope for them was Bairstow. But on the second ball of the 16th over Dushmantha Chameera picked up Bairstow (32 off 28) and apparently sealed the deal for his team. The remaining of the equation proved too much for the Punjab lower order. The men in red was restricted to 133 for eight in 20 overs. Mohsin Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow picking up three wickets for 24 runs from his four overs. Krunal Pandya also did a great job conceding just 11 runs of his four overs and picking up two wickets. This was the fifth defeat for Punjab in nine matches, while Lucknow won their sixth in nine matches.
