India’s probable list of 20 players shortlisted for 2023 ODI World Cup

On January 1, the Indian Cricket Board conducted a meeting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. During its course, the roadmap for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India was decided. For the first time since 2011, India will host the ODI World Cup. Notably, since then, the Men In Blue are yet to win an ODI World Cup.
Not to forget, after the Champions Trophy glory, the team hasn’t won a World Championship. The meeting was a concern was scheduled to address these concerns. As reported, the board has marked 20 players for the upcoming ODI World Cup to be played in October-November this year. Even though the board hasn’t revealed the name of those players, here are some of the possible candidates who might make it.
20 probable players that are shortlisted
1. Batters
The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan are pretty much certain to have made it to the probable list. On the other hand, players such as Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill are the other candidates in the batters category. With Shikhar Dhawan dropped for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, it is difficult for him to make a comeback with no One-Day tournament coming up in domestic cricket.
2. All-rounders
Talking about the all-rounders, players such as Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are sure to get into the team. Apart from them, Washington Sundar can also make it if he remains injury-free. Several injuries have impacted his career in 2021 and 2022. However, he is one of the good performers in white-ball cricket as he has done well with both bat and ball.
3. Bowlers
In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah’s workload needs to be managed. In the last few months, he has missed quite a good amount of cricket due to a stress fracture. It will be interesting to see when he makes a comeback. Apart from him, players such as Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Arshdeep Singh are certainties. Umran Malik can be a surprise.
