Indian athletes have been performing their best so far in this year’s Commonwealth Games. Until Day 8, India managed to win 26 medals across various events. However, Day 8 was an eventful day as Indian wrestlers won six medals (3 gold, 2 silver, and one bronze). Hence, Indian fans again hoped for winning more medals on Day 9 of this mega event.

Meanwhile, on Day 9, Indian athletes managed to win two more medals to the tally. Indian athlete Avinash Mukund scripted a national record in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event. He clocked a national record time of 8:11.20 in the 3000m steeplechase final. Thus, he won a silver medal for India. However, Priyanka Goswami won a historic silver medal in the women’s 10000m race walk final on Saturday. Priyanka’s 43:38.83 is her personal best.

These wins ensured that India managed to bag four medals in Athletics this time around. However, the day became more joyful when the Indian Women’s cricket team entered the final. This was the first time when women’s cricket was scheduled. Hence, Indian women were one of the favourites for making to the final.

Now, the team did not disappoint Indian fans as they managed to pull off a miracle to defeat England women by four runs. Hence, India will look to bag a gold medal on 7 August 2022 in the final. On the other side, Australia or New Zealand will look to qualify for the finals to face India on Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
