‘Intezaar ki ghadhiyan samapt hoti hai’ – Fans react as Arjun Tendulkar is set to make his IPL debut in MI Vs KKR clash

After defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last match at Arun Jaitely Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) is locking horns against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai on Sunday, April 16. In this fixture, the MI’s regular Rohit Sharma is not playing as he is suffering from a stomach bug, and in place of world number one T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the side.

The five times champion won the toss and elected to ball first. The major development at the toss was the inclusion of Arjun Tendulkar, who was in the team for the last three but didn’t get a chance to make his debut. The son of former MI captain Sachin Tendulkar, the left-arm fast bowler, will play his maiden IPL encounter at the same location where Tendulkar played his final international match against the West Indies back in 2013.

The first father-son duo in the IPL is Sachin and Arjun.  In 2021, Arjun became a member of the Mumbai Indians. In the IPL 2022 mega-auction, Arjun was acquired for Rs 30 lakh by the Mumbai Indians side. In his domestic career, he has participated in 7 first-class, 9 T20, and 7 List-A matches.

Reporters questioned MI skipper Rohit Sharma on Arjun’s potential to make his franchise debut during the pre-tournament news conference. In reply to that, Rohit said: “Good question. Hopefully”.

“Arjun is just coming off from an injury. He is going to be playing tonight. Hopefully, we can see what he can do. I think he has been playing very good cricket, especially in terms of bowling, in the last 6 months. So yes, if we can have him available for selection, it will be pretty good for us,” Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher stated.
