The format of the T20 World Cup 2024 has come out, which seems to be different from all the previous editions of the tournament. The T20 World Cup 2024 is reaching new heights with every passing edition. The sheer number of teams that can compete amongst each other at the highest level forced the apex board to increase the number of teams to 20. There have been different ways of the qualification process for the same.

The West Indies and the USA, the two joint hosts of the tournament, qualified directly with them being the hosts. 1o teams that finished in the top 5 of Groups A and B in the T20 World Cup 2022 qualified directly for the T20 World Cup 2024. These teams include the likes of India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Australia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, England, and New Zealand.

In the qualification round, 2 teams each from Asia, Africa, and Europe were set to qualify for the tournament. From North America and the East Pacific region, one team were set to qualify for the tournament. Nepal and Oman qualified from Asia. Namibia and Uganda qualified for the tournament from Africa. Scotland and Ireland qualified from Europe. Canada and Papua New Guinea qualified from North America and the East Pacific region respectively.

Format for the T20 World Cup 2024

The format for the T20 World Cup 2024 for the 20 teams will be comprised of 4 groups. Each of them will feature 5 teams. India and Pakistan are set to be in the same group. The top 2 teams from the group would proceed further to the Super 8 stage. In the following round, the 8 teams that qualify further would be divided into 2 groups of 4 teams each.

The teams that finish in the top 2 positions of their respective groups will qualify for the following round. In the semifinal, the team finishing Group A in the first position would take on the team finishing second position in Group B. Likewise, the team finishing Group B in the first position would take on the team finishing second position in Group A.
