The English Cricket Team lost their fourth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign on Thursday. The eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka has put the defending champions on the brink of early elimination from the tournament. Former Indian player Irfan Pathan has taken his chance to have a massive swipe at Michael Vaughan on Twitter.

Former English skipper Michael Vaughan has time and again had his say which has riled up a lot of Indian fans. One such view was about the lack of fans watching the ODI World Cup 2023 edition.

The English are set to take on India in Lucknow this coming Sunday. The Sri Lankans on the other hand will face off against Afghanistan in a must-win encounter. Pune will be hosting the game on Monday as the 2023 ODI World Cup is beginning to see the race for the top four starting to get tighter.

Moments after England lost to Sri Lanka, former Indian player Irfan Pathan was seen on Twitter. The 38-year-old wrote, “Some people were more concerned about empty seats in the stadium when it would have been wiser to focus on their cricket”.

The above tweet was in direct reference to Michael Vaughan’s misplaced tweet during the early stages of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The former English skipper had written, “Why so many empty seats in #Delhi for the India Game?” The tweet was made during the India versus Afghanistan game which India won by 8 wickets.

Many former Indian cricketers came out to slam Michael Vaughan including Harbhajan Singh. The early part of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament had seen very little crowd participation.

Once the tournament started to catch steam the crowd attendance has also begun to throw. A near-capacity crowd saw the game between Australia and the Netherlands on Wednesday in New Delhi.

Speaking about the game on Thursday, Sri Lanka bowled out England for a mere 156 runs. Lahiru Kumara’s 3/35 broke the back of the English batting, while Ben Stokes top-scored with the bat. Sri Lanka achieved the target with 8 wickets in hand with 146 balls left to play. Sri Lanka now has moved to number 5 in the table going above Pakistan in the points table.
